Xuequan Lu has published over 120 research papers, and over half amount of papers have been published in top-tier venues (CORE A* or equivalent), e.g., Siggraph, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV,AAAI, IJCAI, ACM MM, ISMAR, IEEE TVCG, IEEE TPAMI, IEEE TIP, IEEE TMM, IEEE TNNLS, PR, etc.

He has attracted research funding totalling over $1.5 million, including ARC, state government and industry. He has received the Mid-Career Research Award in 2025 and Early-Career Research Award in 2022. He has received the Best Paper Honourable Mention Award in CVM 2025 (Hong Kong) and one best paper award in DICTA 2024 (Perth).

He is an Associate Editor in IEEE TMM (CORE A*), IEEE TNNLS (CORE A*), and The Visual Computer Journal. He is the Program Chair for the 37th CASA 2024 (premium conference in Computer Graphics), and ICVR 2023-2025 (international VR conference). He is an Area Chair in CVPR, NeurIPS, ACM MM, ICLR, WACV and ICME etc. He organised over 10 special events, including workshops, special sessions and special issues.
